DAY ONE: Phoenix -> Los Angeles -> Beijing We made it! We are in Beijing, China after a long, but very smooth and uneventful flight. We're tired, so we won't give you a lot of details. The biggest surprise of the day was the route that the flight took. We ignorantly expected a straight hop across the Pacific Ocean, but we instead followed a giant arc that took us up the coast of North America, over Alaska, across the Bering Strait over Russia and then down to Beijing. The airline had a really nifty screen that displayed an image of where the plane was on the map at all times including how much time was left on the trip. The hotel we're in is beautiful and as nice as any we've stayed in. Well, better get some shut-eye...we see the Great Wall and the forbidden city on Saturday. Today's photos:
