(Please note that this page was created BEFORE we left for China and includes the information we had available at the time.)

Here is a second photo from the orphanage of the boy that will soon have three brothers!

Although we haven't yet met him ourselves, here are further details about our little Shane (Yang Fu) that we do know:

His Chinese Name: In China, "last names" are spoken first, followed by first names (they don't really use a last name, first name concept, but that's the best way to describe it).  Because the identity of his parents is not known and most Chinese children at these orphanages are abandoned, a name is not known.  Since his orphanage is the Yangzhou Social Welfare Institute, all children from this orphanage are given the "last name" of Yang.  His first name of "Fu" translates into English as "one who helps or helper" -- or more formally, "supplement."  This name was given to him by one of the orphanage employees.

His American Name: His American name we will use is Shane Fu Horton.  We're not sure he looks like a "Shane" just yet, but we are sure the name will eventually fit him perfectly...especially since we're his parents...  Shane means "God is gracious."

His Age: Our new son is currently just over 2 years old -- born on September 8th, 1998!  For those of you that know us well, this is actually quite hilarious, because two of our three boys ALSO have birthdays in mid-September.  Eric on the 14th and Bryan on the 15th.  Add to that their Uncle Carl (Jocelyn's brother that lives here in Scottsdale) on the 16th, and we already experience an annual madness which we refer to as "Birthday Blitz Week."  We can only imagine what it will be like now -- we may have to proclaim all of September "Birthday Blitz Month!"

His Health: Shane (Yang Fu) is reportedly in good health with a minor case of bronchitis (common to many Chinese orphans).  He has a scar where his navel is as he has experienced two surgeries to correct an umbilical hernia or some kind of abdominal situation.  We don't have much more information than that, but all other signs are of a healthy, growing two-year-old!  The latest medical report says that he has sixteen teeth, weighs about 27 pounds and is 32 inches tall.

His Orphanage: Since 3 1/2 months of age until now, he has been living at the Yangzhou Social Welfare Institute in the city of Yangzhou in the Jiangsu Province of China.  We expect to change that!
